Ever since the first poster of Jagan Shakti’s directorial debut, Mission Mangal, released, a debate on Akshay Kumar’s prominent presence on it with lesser space allotted to the female stars started doing the rounds on social media. This was more keeping in mind that in reality Mission Mangal was driven by women .
Talking to a leading daily, actress Vidya Balan who plays a crucial part in the film revealed, “Well, we are in the business of cinema. And finally, if Akshay is going to sell the maximum tickets, it only makes better business sense. Slowly, actresses are gaining in strength, and someday, our faces will be equal, if not bigger than the lead actor. I’m saying this in jest and with no feeling of being slighted or anything.”
The actress further added, “Also, I really feel that we are getting touchy about too many things these days. It is great that today there are conversations about so many things that people would not speak about before, but sometimes, I do think that the people who are commenting are not even aware of what they are saying.”
Produced by R Balki and Akshay Kumar, Mission Mangal has Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha and Nithya Menon in pivotal parts as well. Inspired by India’s Mars Orbiter Mission, the film tells the story of underdogs, who successfully created a satellite that went to Mars. The film is going to hit the screens tomorrow on August 15.
