Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak is a film, made with a humanist concern – of making people aware of how barbaric acts ruin innocent lives. Based on the life of real-life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, Chhapaak tells us the story of a woman, who refused to succumb to the cruelty and has become a source of inspiration for many.
And while people have appreciated the film, that hasn’t reflected in the box-office figures. The film got an opening of Rs. 4.5 crore and contrary to expectations, didn’t manage to pick up. The film collected Rs 2 crore yesterday and now the total collections stand at Rs 22 crore. While the response is good in metropolitan cities, it seems the film has failed to strike a chord with the masses, which Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, on the other hand, seems to have succeeded in.
But Deepika Padukone and Meghna Gulzar’s efforts in attempting a film on such a sensitive subject have received applause all over.
