We all know that link-up rumours in Bollywood catch on like wild fire. Today with the onset of social media and the paparazzi culture, it’s almost impossible for stars to avoid these link-up rumours. Some co-actors, who are just friends and like to hang out together, can’t do so without inviting rumours about their relationship. Back in the ‘90s when media was not so expansive, our actors could manage to keep rumours in control.
A throwback interview of Bhagyashree has gone viral, which the actress gave to Times Of India in 2017. In the interview, she revealed that she had warned Salman Khan to stay away to avoid link-up rumours on the sets of Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). Here’s what she had to say, “They (Salman and Himalaya) have met only once after that. Salman was the first to know about my relationship with Himalaya during the shoot of the song, Dil Deewana. He would follow me around and hum the song in my ear. I kept warning him that people will start talking about us. After irritating me for half-a-day, he said that he knew about Himalaya. He even suggested that I call Himalaya to the location. They were cordial when they met.”
Maine Pyar Kiya is still one of the most watched films on Indian television. It was Bhagyashree’s first film and she won the Best Debut Filmfare award that year. Maine Pyar Kiya also started Salman’s career as a romantic hero in the ‘90s.
