Deepika Padukone’s much-awaited film
Chhapaak has finally hit the screens today. Directed by Raazi and Talvar fame Meghna Gulzar, the film is based on the true story of Delhi-based
acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Laxmi faced an acid attack 15 years ago by a stalker after which she showed great courage and formed the Stop Acid Sale campaign. She even received the International Women of Courage award in 2014 for her efforts.
Deepika Padukone’s appearance at the JNU protests in Delhi has got many people talking but only time will tell whether or not it affects the box-office collections of the film. According to trade analysts,
Chhapaak is expected to earn between Rs. 5-8 crore on its opening day.
Interestingly, Chhapaak has been declared tax free in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh with the Chief Ministers of the respective states confirming the same on social media earlier today.
