National Film Archive Of India to pay tribute to Girish Karnad

National Film Archive of India (NFAI) will be paying homage to veteran playwright and actor Girish Karnad, who passed away on Monday. The NFAI will be honouring the theatre stalwart by screening some of his best work including films like Ondanondu Kaladalli, Kanooru Heggadithi, Kaadu and Jabbar Patel’s Umbartha.

The NFAI revealed that his film Ondanondu Kaladalli was screened on Tuesday. They will also be screening his films like Kanooru Heggadithi on Wednesday, then Kaadu on Thursday and finally Umbartha on Saturday. The veteran artist is survived by wife Saraswathy Ganapathy, his son Raghu Amay and daughter Shalmali Radha.

Not only Bollywood stars but personalities like President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal-Secular supremo H.D. Deve Gowda and Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers D.V. Sadananda Gowda mourned the loss of the legendary artiste. 

In a career that spans across six decades, Karnad established a mark in Hindi, Marathi and Kannada cinema. He was also seen in the famous television series Malgudi Days based on the stories of the author R.K Narayan.
