Ashutosh Gowariker’s next period drama Panipat has been the talk of the town ever since its trailer got released. The film starring Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Kriti Sanon has grabbed all the eyeballs and has been getting positive reviews from all ends. However, the depiction of Sanjay Dutt as Afghan emperor Ahmad Shah Abdali has come under the scanner.
According to reports on an online entertainment portal, the Afghanistan embassy is slightly worried that the film might misinterpret Abdali’s character played by Sanjay Dutt. It’s also said that the embassy is trying to make sure that nothing is misinterpreted. They have written to the Ministry of External Affairs and asked to meet Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar to sort out the same. The letter has been written to make sure that the character depiction in Panipat does not affect the harmony between India and Afghanistan.
Earlier this week when the trailer was released on the internet, Former Afghanistan ambassador to India Dr. Shaida Abdali had tweeted saying, “Dear @duttsanjay Ji: Historically, the Indian cinema has been extremely instrumental in strengthening the Indo-Afghan ties – I very much hope that the film “Panipat” has kept that fact in mind while dealing with this important episode of our shared history.”
Well, we all know that every historical drama comes with its own challenges and controversies. We just hope that this Ashutosh Gowariker’s film sails through the chaos too.
