Ranveer Singh reveals why heâll not do a role like Khilji anytime soon

Ranveer Singh won over everyone as Sultan Alauddin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. The actor took everyone by surprise with his solid performance in the film – right from his voice to his body language to his entire look for the character. As much as we loved Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in the film, Ranveer clearly walked away with the film.

As he excitedly looks forward to the release of his next – Gully Boy in which he plays the role of a street rapper, the actor spoke about playing Khilji and more. Busy promoting Gully Boy, Ranveer was asked if he would be willing to play a character as dark as Khilji once again in his career. Responding to it, Ranveer said, “Probably not. Not anytime soon, not on the periphery. I can’t go back there. Touchwood, I am very blessed that right now, I am going through a very good time. I am very happy and happily married. I am being showered with love and affection from my wife. I am in a very warm and fuzzy, happy space in life.”

He further added, “To be honest, when Khilji was offered to me, I was happy even then. But, I was prepared to go down that rabbit hole. Now, I am not prepared to do that again because having done that before, I know how deep and dark it is. I don’t want to do that? Not anytime soon and hopefully never. I will do this mercy on myself and not go down that path again,”
